Do I need an extra power cable for SATA hard drive and my DVD recorder?

To my knowledge, the only cable that connects the hard drive my motherboard is SATA cable, this cable is going to do much data transfer and also provide electricity? or I need another cable to connect the disk drive and power supply? same with my SATA DVD burner, thx!

No, not SATA also provides power. There is a connector interface that connects the legacy power connector and is adapted to the optical / SATA, the same is true for the SATA HD and most of the time, most SATA, and devices RAID has the legacy connector on it too.
